Remade Watering Can

I was SUPER excited to see a CHEAP and easy way to obtain a watering can to water my newly emerging plants.

A Journey To Dream shares the tutorial on how to create your own milk jug watering can.  (I used a nail to create the holes in my lid...but my plants are outside...so I didn't need the smaller holes)

I am so excited to begin watering without tearing up the dirt in my newly planted pots!

Dish Scrubber from fruit net bag

While visiting my mom in December/January, she had a "scrubbie" that she used to clean off her dishes before loading the dishwasher.  Once I got home, and my dishwasher had to have a thorough cleaning, I decided I would clean most of the food items off of my dishes before loading them.

....(apparently you are supposed to clean out your dishwasher monthly including cleaning out the jets...the spinning things above and below your racks.  It's where all of the food collects and gets trapped...gasp!  I have never done it other than running a cup of vinegar through an empty machine)

Now I needed a "scrubbie" and a sponge wouldn't cut it.  You know what I'm talking about.  The first time you use a sponge to remove fettuccine or cheese you have a nasty cheese covered sponge.

Looking around my counter, I had an orange bag.

I cut off each end, and then wound it to my satisfaction.

Voila!  A new FREE scrubbie!

It's been working great for a few weeks now! This was linked to: Tip Junkie handmade projects

Make your own GIft bags....from Newspaper...FREE

The other day, (after I had already purchased a gift bag bundle from the store) I found this great link to making your own newspaper gift bags at How About Orange.
I was done with work, the kids were done with school and I haven't crafted much lately....so it was a feet wetter.  AND it was easy.

Christmas ornament decor

The other day we ate a frozen pizza.  Doesn't really work with the "trying to eat healthier" diet, but hey...it was onhand, quick and easy.

While discarding all the wrapping....i thought....I can use this circle piece of cardboard for something......(it sounds like the something a hoarder would say)

That something turned into an ornament:
CIrcle cardboard from frozen pizza (clean) mod podge, glue stick, 12x12 scrapbook paper x2, 4x6 inserts from CVS photos

I cut a piece of the cardstock that came with my CVS photos as the top of the ornament and covered with scrapbook paper. Then i traced and glued on my cardstock.
I applied a thick layer of mod podge and now they are good to go.

Easy, quick and best of all FREE!

Candy Flower Bouquet

As I sat staring at my handful of snack size Snickers to take to my pal Shelly in the hospital after having her baby, I thought "I can't just take her a handful of Snickers....how can I dress it up?"  So....in a dash...literally 15 minutes I made this.

Here is a quick HOW TO in case you wanna do it.

Start with your supplies:

Once I started, I realized I wasn't going to make just one flower...so I added more candy.
I started by making some circles tracing a glass.  I used the larger circle and taped on the candy to it.  (This was wrong....i will explain later)

It helps to have an audience while you make these.
THE GIRL also helped take pictures as did THE HUSBAND.

Next, take your dowel rod, or whatever you are using for to support the heavy candy topper and wrap it with ribbon.

Again, I taped the stick to the flower.....WRONG...keep reading.

I realized...Hey...this tape is NOT gonna hold the weight...so I broke out the glue gun.  Instead of taping...use the hot glue...just don't melt the candy :)

At this point, I realized that I needed something to stabilize the candy bars to keep them from flapping forward.  Floral wire worked great and glued it to the circle cardstock behind the candy.

Then I taped the candy bars to the wire for support (this is the back of the flower).

I hot glued the smaller circle to the front...again careful not to melt the candy.

I completed a second version with Twizzlers.

Then, THE GIRL taped individual candies to floral wire and we used those as a filler.

The tootsie rolls at the bottom are brown...just like soil.

The best part...It won't die!  (Just hopefully get eaten!)

Easy Diaper Cake Tutorial

Here is a quick tutorial for making a diaper cake for a baby shower or as a gift:

Materials:
2 pkgs of diapers newborn or sz1
large 1" or larger ribbon (about 6-10 feet)
toys, clothes or something to add "fluff" to the cake
Bottle bank, regular baby bottle or paper towel roll for inside
rubber bands (for each diaper)
receiving blankets (optional)
cardboard for the bottom stand

1. Loosely roll your diapers and secure with rubber bands.

2. Create the bottom layer of your diaper cake.

3. Add your rolled diapers around your bottle/roll to create first layer.
4. Once size is achieved, wrap with a ribbon. (I used the blankets for this step)

5. Do your next 2 layers following steps 2-4.
6. Add your bling.
7. Cut a circle out of cardboard for the bottom.

Here are the two diaper cakes I made for the special ladies at church:

These worked out really well for our decor at the baby shower.

New Project to Make from "Very Homemade"

I saw an ADORABLE project to make for THE BOY that is a tutorial from Very Homemade.

I have cut out my pattern and hope to get this completed in the near future.  I just haven't been in the mood to sew lately, but have several items cut out and ready to go for when the mood strikes!

Creation Corner also used this tutorial and created her own Boy ties...

Hanging spoons and cups Part II

So I previously posted and linked to the sites for how to make your own hanging measuring spoon and cup holders for inside your cabinet doors.  I FINALLY was able to get this completed (it took a while as THE HUSBAND took our drills to church for our remodel, so I wasn't able to predrill holes or attach to the doors)

I wasn't as cool as the other tutorial I saw about labeling each hook, but at least it gets them out of my drawer!  (AND provides a bit of amusement when THE HUSBAND or THE GIRL opens the cupboard door and these swing out a little at them, scaring them a bit....hee hee---even I have been a victim of this cheap scare, now I am trying to think of a way to get them to be held against door.)
Here are a few "in the making pictures of THE BOY and I preparing these for installation.
Can't wait for the next project!

Pom Pom Rug in the making

I saw this cute pom pom rug on Lion Brand Yarn

I just knew that I had to make with the GOBS of yarn that I have.  Here is an easy way to make your own.

Start with a ball of yarn.

In order to make the pom poms, you will need to either make a nifty "U" shaped cardboard template, or use your fingers to wrap the yarn around.

Next, wrap the yarn around your "U" template about 30 times or more, depending on the fatness of the pom pom you want.

Then take a small strip of yarn and tightly....tightly wrap around the middle of the "U".

Now, cut the ends of either side of your wrapped yarn.
It should look like this now.
You can shorten your edges and make it into a round pom pom (too much like everyone else, so I like mine shaggy)

Repeat this step however many pom poms it takes to make the size rug, blanket, craft that you want.  I am making a rug and completed over 30 and am about halfway done.

This is a "before" shot when I laid out my pom poms on the island.

Doesn't this just make you wanna stick your feet in it and reminisce the shag carpet years?  I know, right?

As I laid out all of my pom poms, I thought.....what am I going to use to attach these to?

What did I get?  A nonslip rug back from Dollar Tree.  $1 for the back, and I already had the yarn.  Gotta love what I can make from what I have!  What have YOU made from the stuff lying around your house?

I'm linking to Creation Corner.
